I just returned from two weeks in Quebec for the Adventure Travel World Summit, my favorite global travel conference. Part of the reason this conference is my favorite is because it always includes an adventure for me during the week ahead of the conference. This year I did a multi-day cycling trip around Lake Saint-Jean in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. It was beautiful and so fun and I'll tell you more about it in a podcast later because the point today is... I crashed my gravel bike. 😬 Luckily, it was on a part of the trail covered with beautiful new black top. I don't even really know how it happened, apparently I just thought the pavement suddenly looked like a really good place to roll around. I was moving pretty fast, chatting with my friend Jess who was riding next to me, and the next thing I knew my entire left side was being dragged along the path. Also luckily, I didn't get run over by the guy riding behind me. Honestly, I'm totally fine except for some road rash and a strained wrist. It could have been SO much worse. I did go through three layers of clothing on my left shoulder, so those will be a bummer to replace, but all in all, I did get very lucky. Shout out to helmets. I did not even end up going to see a doctor on this trip, BUT... it got me thinking... There is one type of travel insurance I buy every single time I go on a trip, and I want to share it with you so you can bookmark it too: SafetyWing travel medical insurance What I love about it is that it focuses on travel medical, which is exactly what my credit card does not provide for accidents like a bike crash. I do a lot of adventures in my travels, so the medical insurance gives me extra peace of mind. It also is very affordable, because I'm not paying for features I don't need. Double check your credit card, because mine does cover certain aspects of medical, but it's usually tied to transportation or evacuation and of course doesn't cover anything that isn't purchased using that card. So for example, if you use a bank transfer to pay for your trip, your credit card insurance doesn't kick in and cover you. I go a little more into detail on travel insurance here (bookmark that page too!), just bear in mind I am not a travel insurance advisor. I'm just sharing with you what I use and making sure you know that travel insurance coverage is up to you to buy! One more thing - I get asked a lot about CFAR (Cancel For Any Reason) travel insurance. CFAR covers you for just that – ANY reason. But you generally need to purchase coverage as soon as you have made an investment in your trip, i.e. booking a flight or putting a deposit down for a trip, as many CFAR policies require purchase within a certain timeframe. With CFAR, your investment is covered immediately. World Nomads offers CFAR and medical and everything else you might need. It’s a great one-stop shop for travel insurance. If you don’t need extra bells and whistles though (no CFAR, no trip delay, etc.), get medical coverage with SafetyWing and be on your way! I hope this was helpful. Again, bookmark this travel insurance page to save all this for future reference. Stay safe out there! 💛 Jackie PS: And then I found a 4-leaf clover 🍀✨ cheers! |

This is a good one. I've known Kristen since we were roommates together during our study abroad in Turin, Italy back in 2005 (we were just wee babes of 20 years old!). Scott, her boyfriend at the time and now husband, came to visit, and we've all been in each other's lives these past 20+ years. (Scroll on for photos!) I recently had the honor of hosting each of them, separately, on the podcast, because Kristen's life changed in one magical sip of wine while we were living in Italy, and she...
I hope you (fellow northern hemisphere-ers) had a lovely summer! And if you're a southern hemisphere-er, a lovely winter! Before it all gets too far in the rearview mirror, here's a quick recap of the happenings around here these past few months that you might have missed while you were having fun under the sun (I hope)! And if you're only here for the tutu, scroll down... I met Alex Honnold & Jim Morrison and had them BOTH on my podcast, from a stage at a conference in Utah! I recorded a...
Yes - you read that right - Alex Honnold & Jim Morrison are my guests on the podcast this week. (First - can I get a cheers to that?!) 🤩 Alex Honnold is the professional rock climber we know from his unprecedented free solo (without ropes) ascents of El Capitan in Yosemite (as shown in the Netflix documentary Free Solo) and of the Taipei 101 skyscraper (which was covered live on Netflix). Jim Morrison is the first person to ever ski down the north face of Mount Everest through the Hornbein...
